a tumblr user: you know when you uh…. astral project… to walgreens…. to pick up some excedrin for your headache but get sidetracked in the “intimate care” aisle because your… soul projection just noticed that they actually stock tiny vibrators in-store at walgreens and it really catches you by surprise then you notice an employee staring at your shadowy, indistinct form which is awkwardly hunched over in front of the condom shelf and you have to struggle to explain what you’re doing there hahaha
someone with a junkrat icon and a 3 page long blocklist linked in their about: hey OP just wondering why did you kill wolfgang amadeus mozart with poison :/

is period shaming really a thing? the only time I’ve ever witnessed it, was the first year of middle school and some girls were making fun of my friend for having it (which still confuses me to this day, cos they had it as well?? i assume they had at least??? confusing) maybe it’s a US thing?

yes it exists in the US, but it’s not just a US thing; it’s even worse in many other places in the world.

in some cultures women are beaten for menstruating or violating menstrual taboos, even by accident https://books.google.com/books?id=66u24WAyO_YC&pg=PA409&lpg=PA409&dq=angola+menstruation+whipped&source=bl&ots=szn90tqfSw&sig=pish4ztcuBXSCthAGTP0y455C5s&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwizmtjikZzRAhUH0IMKHbPRDcgQ6AEIHzAC#v=onepage&q=angola%20menstruation%20whipped&f=false

in other cultures women are slapped in the face when they get their first periods https://halshs.archives-ouvertes.fr/halshs-00445235/document

a man in zimbabwe tried to burn his wife alive because she had a prolonged menstrual cycle & that was “clearly” a sign of witchcraft http://nehandaradio.com/2012/07/15/man-divorces-wife-for-continued-menstrual-cycle/

a Buddhist sect believes that women go to hell after death as punishment for polluting the Earth with menstrual and birth blood http://podcast.shin-ibs.edu/?p=249

women in some cultures are forced out into sheds during their periods. this has resulted in rapes (due to lack of security) and the deaths of hundreds of women. http://www.ijssh.org/papers/296-B00016.pdf

last 2016 saw 2 Nepalian girls die due to such practices in less than a month http://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2016/12/20/506306964/15-year-old-girl-found-dead-in-a-menstrual-hut-in-nepal

girls who’ve tried to defy this practice have been forced to walk on thorns http://womensenews.org/2015/03/in-nepal-menstruation-can-mean-days-in-isolation/ women who deny the custom are blamed for misfortunes http://www.ijssh.org/papers/296-B00016.pdf

an Ethiopian girl was beaten for having her period because her dad thought that only sinning women get periods https://www.theguardian.com/global-development-professionals-network/2016/may/28/we-dont-know-enough-about-menstruation-and-girls-are-paying-a-price

girls in Africa often miss school during menstruation due to ridicule by boys http://www.susana.org/_resources/documents/default/2-1200-kirk-2006-menstruation-kit-paper.pdf

tl;dr: yeah period shaming is a thing and it’s a worldwide phenomenon

It’s not only girls in africa who have to miss school because of their period, it’s girls all over the world http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/girls-skipping-school-periods-cant-afford-tampons-sanitary-pads-a7629766.html       http://metro.co.uk/2017/03/15/british-girls-are-missing-school-because-they-cant-afford-tampons-6510314/

also homeless women  (https://www.bustle.com/articles/190092-this-is-how-homeless-women-cope-with-their-periods) and women in prisons (http://www.womenshealthmag.com/life/women-jail-periods) rarely have access to sanitary products
