Mom and I were talking about traveling to different planets and colonies on Mars and meeting aliens and stuff like that, and she paused and said, “If life on Earth ends and we need to flee to a different planet, we’ll all need to work together. But also the first time a man pulls some shit, all the women need to murder him so everyone’s clear that we’re restarting society and we’re not bringing that shit with us. We’re not doing this again.”

graphic on screen torture of a woman is not provocative not metaphorical not deep women have made art and film about pain and sacrifice without falling back on a gross-out contest its not entertaining to see that its not compelling its actually one of the most tired things present in film today

Straight male directors love depicting the brutalization of women because they know how profound female suffering is and want to capitalize on it but their innate lack of empathy means the only way they can think to access that pain is thru graphic depictions of feminine objectification and dehumanization. They enact the same kinds of gendered violence they practice in varying degrees every day and fantasize about in private and they call it thoughtful, they call it beautiful. And everyone repeats, “he is thoughtful; she is beautiful.” He doesn’t care to know her, just to indulge himself through her. Over and over again

Honestly this might be a stretch but imo a lot of those male directors that go to those lengths to depict brutal violence and torture on women probably have fantasized aboit doing that at one point and it just makes me shudder

that’s not a stretch at all. it’s not farfetched, it’s a red flag.

Those were Tarantino’s hands in the choking scene of Inglorious Basterds. He insisted on choking Diane Kruger, ultimately rendering her unconscious. so like, yeah they’re all psychos

honestly missionaries are evil. the idea of traveling the world to tell people Who Didnt Fucking Ask that their beliefs are wrong in the hopes that theyll adopt your beliefs seems sinister

An Inuit hunter asked the local missionary priest: “If I did not know about God and sin, would I go to hell?”

“No,” said the priest, “not if you did not know.”

“Then why,” asked the Inuit earnestly, “did you tell me?”
