Young girls literally should not care abt their appearance at all. Whether it be in a negative or positive way – I reckon that the current state of culture cannot undo the fact that, no matter what they do, they will be subjected to scrutiny. And they don’t deserve that.
some middle aged white dude who has never had a problem with his perfectly sculpted body in his life: Does replacing our flesh with metal and circuits… disconnect us from humanity? When you replace man with machine… how long does the soul stay connected?
literally anyone who has had a limiting physical condition, interacted with prosthetics or assistance devices: You really don’t understand the ‘Punk’ of Cyberpunk, do you?
Something a lot of early cyberpunk’s modern imitators don’t seem to grasp is that the reason early cyberpunk treats cybernetic modification with suspicion is because those modifications are often performed against the recipients’ will at the behest of state and corporate interests. It’s an explicit metaphor for the commodification of bodily autonomy under capitalism – and it draws a direct line to contemporary abuses of the same. It’s not by accident that the first chromed-out street samurai to grace the pages of cyberpunk literature is a woman.
When someone says that “men need sex” or “prostitution prevents rape” or advocate for disabled men to have state sponsored visits from sex workers, they’re also saying something disturbing about their conception of sex.
They see sex as a resource that has to be extracted from the female body, through force, manipulation, or payment. It’s something that can be redistributed, bought or stolen just like a tv or a laptop. We don’t talk about men needing to attend dinner parties or needing to belong to a bowling team because we recognize those as social activities that need the participation of everyone involved. You can’t mandate friendship, it requires the intent of more than one person.
We need to start thinking of sex this way. When you say that men need sex, remember that sex is an activity you do WITH SOMEONE ELSE. It can never be neutrally given. Sex should be done because two people want to have sex, not because a man needs to be given it.
im bi but I tend to get crushes on fictional male characters more that real men and real women more than fictional female characters
so I guess I like to concept of men
i think this is a common feeling because men are written with such depth and complexity, whereas fictional women are not only few and far between, but are written half-assedly and from a place of little understanding of a woman’s standpoint.
meanwhile, real women are lovely and complex people, and real men are mostly just potatoes.
